OnlyFans released an official statement on Wednesday, 25th August 2021 via Twitter saying, ‘Thank you to everyone for making your voices heard. We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned 1st October policy change. OnlyFans stands for inclusion, and we will continue to provide a home for all creators.’

Their prior decision to ban porn content from the site had met so much damnation considering that explicit content creators are largely responsible for the site’s immense growth. It is reported that there are millions of explicit content on the site that basically attract close to 2M cash flow for the site on a monthly basis.

However, the site seeks to distance itself from this fact, bluntly claiming that it is a platform for all creators, from musicians like Cardi B to top celebrity chefs. But let it be noted that from the site was founded back in 2016 until this moment, porn has been the most overall popular content genre on the platform. According to most creators, the site’s direct content sales system is simply one in a million.

In a recent interview with the Financial Times, Tim Stokely, the founder of OnlyFans, seeks to distance the site from the entire confusion. He put the blame entirely on financial institutions like Britain’s Metro Bank, JP Morgan, and BNY Mellon for making it difficult for the site’s sex workers to cash out.

However, there have been claims that the site has been struggling to find investors who are generally concerned about the fact that the site hosts adult content. Not to mention the vitality risks involved with the law catching up with amateur content hosting websites that knowingly or unknowingly facilitate child pornography.

Mastercard is also said to introduce stricter rules and regulations for all users dealing with adult content on 1st October 2021; the very date OnlyFans was set to enact their ban against porn content on their platform. This could be a mere coincidence, but you can bet that most people certainly do not think so.

Stokely denies both claims stating that OnlyFans ‘didn’t make this policy change to make it easier to find investors.’ He even went further to explain that their firm is not simply cowing to Mastercard’s new rules because the site is already deemed fully compliant. In fact, according to Mastercard’s spokespersons statement to CNBC, ‘They made this decision themselves.’

While it is feared that some of the greatest porn content creators might have left or been preparing to leave and actively in pursuit of better alternatives. All eyes are on OnlyFans’ future financial projections to see how well the site actually takes this frustrating and somewhat confusing announced ban despite the decision to reverse it.
